Russia’s aggression against Ukraine continues. On Monday evening, he officially recognized the independence of the separatist republics of Donetsk and Lugansk. And on Thursday morning, the Russian army attacked all of Ukraine.
“I asked for a quick decision”
The first decisions of European states have already been made after Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. Erik Roeste, president of the Norwegian Ski Association asked (FIS) to cancel all the remaining competitions of the season played in Russia. In March, the World Cup in women’s ski jumping in Nizhny Tagil and Tchaikovsky was to be held there, as well as the World Cup in acrobatic ski jumping in Moscow.
– It happened very quickly tonight and was dramatic. That’s why I emailed the FIS early today asking for a quick decision. Russia has now invaded Ukraine. We are in a completely new situation and we need to keep everyone safe. Not only us Norwegians, but the whole world – admitted Erik Røste.
Meanwhile, two countries: Sweden and withdrew their teams from the bandy world championship (a team sports game similar to ice hockey). They were to start in October this year in Russia.
The Russians are practically sure about the LM final. They openly admit it
In view of the events in Ukraine, it is also unclear what will happen to the Champions League final, which was to be held at the Gazprom Arena in St. Petersburg. It was scheduled for May 22. UEFA may decide to move the final to another country.
– Considering the whole situation, the final will most likely be picked up. However, everything will depend on UEFA regulations. Only the UEFA Executive Committee may decide to postpone the final.
