Spanish Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso considered this Thursday that “it would not be logical for us to go to Russia” this season (race in Sochiin September), after the Russian attack on Ukrainein an interview with the Spanish public radio television.

“The truth is that today I woke up and seeing the news I have been in shock”, said Alonso, who claimed to feel “enormous sadness. You feel a huge injustice.”

“That there are these problems today and that they cannot be solved in another way, that there are innocent people fighting for their lives or fearing for them. Our leaders have to fix this in another way and not with weapons”, affirmed the Alpine pilot.

“We, as athletes, as (Sebastian) Vettel said, we have to be responsible with what we do. Hopefully Formula 1 makes the best decisions. It is true that we will have a race in Russia in September and it would not be logical for us to go to Russia”, he assured.

Before the Spanish Vettel and Max Verstappen had spoken in favor of an annulment of the Russian Grand Prixscheduled for September in Sochi.

Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine on Thursday, with air strikes and the entry of ground forces, causing dozens of deaths already from the first hours, according to the Ukrainian authorities. (D)
