The Ukrainian Championship is suspended. After the escalation in tensions between Russia and Ukraine and the Russian invasion on Thursday, the tournament organizers chose to suspend the championship and attribute the decision to martial law imposed in the European country.
“Due to the imposition of martial law in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Premier League is suspended,” the Ukrainian Premier League said on its official website.
The Russian invasion began in the early hours of this Thursday, after the announcement of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Due to the bombings in the country, Brazilian players who play in Ukraine asked for help to leave the capital, Kiev, through a video posted on their social networks.
“We are all gathered here, Dynamo and Shakhtar players, with our families in a hotel. We ask you to share this video. Due to the lack of fuel in the city, the closed border and closed airspace, we are unable to leave . We ask for the support of the government of Brazil, which can help us”, said Marlon, Shakhtar defender.
The video features former Palmeiras striker Fernando, as well as former São Paulo player David Neres, who transferred to Shakhtar earlier this year, leaving Ajax, from the Netherlands.
