Metz coach Frédéric Antonetti has been suspended for seven games after his altercation with Lille officials last Friday in a Ligue 1 match,
The announcement of the suspension was made by the French Professional Football League (LFP) this Wednesday.
The LFP Disciplinary Commission also added three more games of suspension against Antonetti, but with the enforcement on hold.
Antonetti’s punishment causes the coach to miss a crucial part of some duels that are very important for Metz in their quest for permanence. He won’t be able to return to the team’s bench until mid-April for the last six league games.
Involved in the incident, Lille leaders Olivier Letang and Sylvain Armand were also sanctioned. The first was suspended for two games “of presence on the bench, referees’ dressing room and all official functions”. The second was suspended for four games.
Frédéric Antonetti was sent off on Friday at the end of the match against Lille (1-1) after that dispute with Sylvain Armand, whom he criticized for approaching his technical area to complain to the fourth official.
It was the third red card that Antonetti received this season.
