Portuguese coach Paulo Fonseca is in Kiev and brought details about the environment after Russia’s invasion on Thursday, reporting explosions in Ukraine as a result of the attacks. The coach, who has a strong connection to the country as he is married to a Ukrainian, highlighted the moments of tension.
“I woke up at five in the morning with five explosions in a row. I had a flight scheduled for today, but now it is impossible to leave here, not least because the airports are already destroyed and the airspace has been closed”, he commented, in an interview with Jornal de NotÃcias de Portugal.
Paulo Fonseca began his story in Ukraine managing Shakhtar Donetsk. Recently, he was even quoted to take over Corinthians-which he closed with another Portuguese: Vitor Pereira.
Now, despair takes over the coach. “You can only get out of Kiev by land and everyone tries to go to Lviv, it’s impossible to get around, the lines are huge. All we can do is pray that a bomb doesn’t fall next to us. Honestly, I don’t know how I’m going to get out of here,” he confirmed. Paulo Fonseca.
