It became known about the decision of UEFA to deprive St. Petersburg of the Champions League final

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) will deprive St. Petersburg of the right to host the Champions League final. It is reported by the Associated Press (AP).

This decision must be approved at an emergency meeting of the executive committee of the organization, which will be held on Friday. “Against the background of the development of the situation between Russia and Ukraine, the head of UEFA decided to hold an urgent meeting in order to assess the situation and take appropriate measures,” the UEFA statement says.

On February 23, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss called for a boycott of the Champions League final in St. Petersburg. The statement was made against the background of the recognition of the independence of the DNR and LNR by the Russian authorities.

The Champions League final is scheduled for May 28. The decisive match of the Eurocup for the second time in history was to be held in Russia. In 2008, Manchester United and Chelsea competed for the trophy at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.
