ATP tennis tournament moved from Russia

The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) has postponed the open men’s tournament from Russia. This was reported to the organization.

ATP has published an updated calendar for the third and fourth quarters of 2022. According to it, all 25 matches of the tournament will be held not in St. Petersburg, but in the capital of Kazakhstan, Nur-Sultan. The reason for the decision of the ATP to change the venue is not reported.

At the same time, the planned Kremlin Cup will be held in Moscow.

Earlier it became known that the Polish Football Association is going to apply to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) regarding the holding of the 2022 World Cup qualification match against Russia in Moscow. The Poles will ask to move the meeting to a neutral field due to the current political situation. According to the Minister of Sports and Tourism of Poland, Kamil Bortnichuk, football players should not fly to Russia. “If the transfer is not approved, we will think about what to do,” the functionary added.

On February 22, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced that it does not plan to postpone the Champions League final from St. Petersburg after Russia recognizes the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR). The final of the tournament should take place on May 28.

On the same day, Polish Deputy Prime Minister Yaroslav Kaczynski, who oversees security issues, proposed a boycott of international sports competitions held in Russia. He considered that this would create problems for the country.
