A 20-year-old Russian hockey player was diagnosed with a brain tumor

The general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs club, Kyle Dubas, announced that the Russian striker Rodion Amirov was diagnosed with a brain tumor. His words are quoted on the website of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Dubas said the tumor was discovered during an examination and subsequent treatment of the 20-year-old hockey player for another injury. Amirov is currently undergoing treatment in Germany and will not play at least until the end of this season. It is noted that Toronto is consulting on the issue of treatment with the Ufa Salavat Yulaev, where the player spent the beginning of the current season.

Amirov played in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) for Salavat Yulaev from 2019 to 2022. He was drafted by Toronto this season. The athlete became the first player in the history of the national team to score in three debut matches in a row at the stages of the Eurotour.

On February 3, 2020, the goalkeeper of the Kazakhstani club of the Youth Hockey League (MHL) “Snow Leopards” Vilen Prokofiev died at the age of 18. The cause of death was Ewing’s sarcoma (a malignant tumor of the bone skeleton).
