English football clubs should boycott the Champions League final, which will be held in St. Petersburg. This call was made by the head of the British Foreign Office, Liz Truss, her words are quoted by the Daily Mail.
“If I were them, I would boycott the final. Personally, I would not want to participate in a football match in St. Petersburg, given what the regime is doing [президента России Владимира] Putin,” she said.
On February 22, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced that it does not plan to postpone the Champions League final from St. Petersburg after Russia recognizes the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR). The final of the tournament should take place on May 28.
In the Champions League of the current season, matches of the 1/8 finals are held. Four English teams remained in the fight for the title: Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool.
