Rushed by commercial contracts, Mexico measures Ecuador in friendly game

The game will be on Wednesday in Charlotte, United States. La Tri is one of the five annual rivals that the Aztecs must take to American courts.

By need to fulfill the commitments of their customary presentations on US courts, the soccer team of Mexico will face Ecuador this Wednesday in a friendly match to be played in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Every year, the Mexican team must celebrate at least five friendly matches of exhibition in United States territory by the agreement that the Mexican Soccer Federation (FMF) has with the promoter company Soccer United Marketing (SUM).

In 2020 it was not possible to celebrate those five games due to the pandemic and they were added to the five corresponding to 2021.

It is estimated that each of these friendly games organized by SUM leaves the FMF a two million dollar revenue, that is, 20 million dollars for the 10 games corresponding to the two years.

In 2021, the Mexican team has only been able to vent four of those commitments (against Iceland, Honduras, Panama and Nigeria), Ecuador will be the fifth and a sixth is expected to be scheduled for December 10.

No stellar players

Because It is not FIFA DateNeither Mexico nor Ecuador could summon their players installed in the European leagues.

With difficulties, Gerardo Martino, coach of Mexico, formed a squad of 18 players drawn from the local league in which those with the most experience in the senior team are the offensive midfielders Roberto Alvarado and Uriel Antuna with 23 and 25 games, respectively.

Seven of those mentioned players have not debuted with the senior Mexican team, one of them is Haret Ortega, central defender of Toluca.

“I hope it is the first call of many,” said Ortega. “I know it is a friendly match, but we are already there in the sights of Professor Martino, and we hope to fill his eye,” added the 21-year-old defender and warned that he will fight the headlines.

Ecuador changes payroll

On your side, Gustavo Alfaro, Ecuador coach, drew up a list of 20 players, 17 of them belonging to the local league.

Alfaro’s list included three attackers who are active abroad: Alexander Alvarado from Orlando City in the United States and Michael Estrada and Romario Ibarra, from the Mexican clubs Toluca and Pachuca, respectively; however, the latter he was not loaned by his club, so that Alfaro decided on the last minute call for José Carabalí.

The game will be played from 9:00 p.m. local time (20:00 from Ecuador) at the Bank of America stadium which has a capacity for 75,000 spectators.

According to the count of the Mexican Soccer Federation, both teams have met 24 times. The balance is 16 wins for Mexico, five draws and three wins for Ecuador, with 42 goals scored by the Aztecs and 23 by the South Americans.

After this match, Both teams will resume their respective World Cup qualifiers in November.

Ecuador, third in the Conmebol qualifier, will host Venezuela on November 11. Mexico, leader of the Concacaf octagonal, will visit the United States on Friday 12. (D)
