Will Rob Font be Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera’s first opponent in the UFC this 2022? | Other Sports | sports

“Ready to rip someone’s head off,” wrote Marlon Vera on his Twitter account on Monday, waiting to receive his turn to return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) octagon in 2022.

Since he defeated the American Frankie Edgar at the UFC 268 show -in November 2021 in New York- and climbed to eighth place in the ranking of the bantamweight division, chito Vera (20-7-1 MMA, 12-6 UFC) He has insistently asked Brazilian legend José Aldo for revenge and has invited former bantamweight champion, the American Dominick Cruz, to a duel. Likewise, he has recognized that he would be happy to soon agree to a duel with any opponent who is within the top 5 or against the sixth, seventh or eighth of the ranking.

A series of names have mentioned the Manabi idol in his intention to return to the cage. He has even said that his time has come to get an important fight that will bring him closer to the 135-pound elite and, this, to the duel for the belt.

“I want to fight at least three times this year. I want my next fight to be a (member of) top 5. I can feel my time to be champion is coming,” he noted in another tweet earlier this month.

According to sources close to ESPNthere would be a negotiation for the Ecuadorian to face the fifth classified, Rob Font (19-5-0)who lost his last confrontation by unanimous decision against Aldo (31-7-0) at UFC Vegas 44 -December 4, 2021-.

While the tricolor athlete is looking for a contender, Aldo awaits the winner between Aljamain Sterling and Petr Yan, who still do not have a definite date to face each other for the undisputed belt of the division.

For that reason, the Brazilian sees former champion TJ Dillashaw (second ranked) as a potential opponent, who beat Cory Sandhagen in his last fight.

They are all names that are on Vera’s long list in order to set up a five-round bell clash in a PPV event.

“I would like to fight as soon as possible and with anyone in the top 5, someone who is from eighth place up, whoever comes. Font, Merab (Dvalishvili), Cory (Sandhagen); Aldo, the rematch, it would be incredible; Cross; whatever,” he said last January to ESPN. (D)
