The International Research Agency (ITA) issued an official announcement that Laura Barquero had obtained a positive test result, which she underwent on February 18 after the short program. “The result was reported to the laboratory on February 21 this year. The competitor was informed about the test results and may request the analysis of sample B. The case was referred to the Sport Arbitration Court” – reads in the release.

The ITA announced that clostebol, a substance prohibited by WADA, has been detected in the body. She had to deal with a similar situation in 2016, when the team’s doctor, Frederik S. Bendiksen, recommended the runner to use the Trofodermin ointment, which contains a banned substance. After the scandal broke out, Dr. Bendiksen resigned and was unable to explain how he might not have noticed that the recommended remedy was composed of clostebol.
Laura Barquero is not the only person to test positive for a doping test conducted at the Beijing Winter Olympics. Earlier, such a fate befell Lidia Gunko (bobsleighist), Valentina Kamiñska (Ukrainian) and Hossein Shemshaki (Alpine).
