Havertz scores, Chelsea beat Lille to open up in Champions League round of 16

This Tuesday, Chelsea and Lille faced each other in the first leg of the round of 16 of Champions League. At Stamford Bridge, Thomas Tuchel’s team won 2-0, with goals from Kai Havertz and Pulisic. Belgian Romelu Lukaku was on the bench for the entire game.

Now, the English take the advantage of two goals for the return duel, which will be on March 16, in France.

Chelsea return to the field next Sunday, in the English League Cup final against Liverpool, at 1:30 pm (Brasilia time). Lille, in turn, face Lyon, on the same day, at 16:45 (Brasília), for the French Championship.

The game – In the first half, the English started pressing, mainly with Kai Havertz. The German, in the fourth minute, finished out after receiving a cross in the area. Then, at seven, he hit placed but stopped in great defense of Leo Jardim. Until, at eight, he finally put the ball in the back of the net, with a header, after a corner kick.

The match continued at a slower pace. Chelsea arrived a few times in quick attacks with Ziyech. Lille submitted a few times, but without giving Mendy any trouble.

The French’s first shot on goal came just in the 35th minute. Benjamin Andre got a rebound and hit from outside the area, but without great difficulties for the goalkeeper.

Second time

In the second half, the first dangerous move was from Chelsea. Marcos Alonso entered the area, received a shot and tried a low shot, but the ball hit the defender of Lille.

The English extended it in the 18th minute. N’Golo Kanté received in midfield, drove at speed to the edge of the area and arranged for Pulisic to finish on the goalkeeper’s exit, putting the ball in the back of the net.

Lille sought to close the gap, but stopped at Chelsea’s well-placed defense, which featured a great performance by Thiago Silva. Tuchel’s men managed the match without any major scares.
