Russian skier Alexander Bolshunov spoke about his attitude to success after the 2022 Olympics in Beijing. His words are quoted by Match TV.
The athlete said that the prize money earned for medals is not the main thing for him, and refused to calculate their size. “It’s great that I can earn money with this work, but if my goal was to earn money, then there wouldn’t be a single medal here,” he considered. Bolshunov added that he competes in order to overcome himself and circumstances.
At the 2022 Games, Bolshunov became a three-time Olympic champion: he has gold in skiathlon, relay and marathon. The athlete also won silver in the 15 km race in the classic style and bronze in the team sprint.
For his victories, the 25-year-old skier will receive 16.2 million rubles from the Russian government. In addition, Bolshunov will receive additional remuneration from the regional authorities and the sports club he represents.
