Paraguayan football seeks consensus for full capacity in stadiums after lifting health restrictions due to COVID-19

After the announcement, this Tuesday, made by the Government of Paraguay on the lifting of all health restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, except for the use of masks in closed places and crowded spaces, from the Paraguayan Football Association (APF) a consensus of authorities is sought so that the capacity allowed in the stadiums is one hundred percent. This, a month after the red and white team receives Ecuador in the penultimate round of the South American qualifying round for the World Cup in Qatar.

“The use of masks will continue to be in force and the efforts against COVID-19 will focus on reinforcing the vaccination campaign,” said Paraguayan presidential spokesman Hernán Hutteman, who justified the measure by “the improved epidemiological situation” that the country is experiencing. The official clarified that the masks will continue to be mandatory both in closed spaces and in open places where the corresponding distance cannot be maintained..

In this framework, Sandra Irala, general director of Health Surveillance of Paraguay, said in ABC Cardinal that the recommendations of the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare regarding the coronavirus remain in force. These include that football stadiums have 80% capacity and not their full capacity.

Paraguay will take the game against Ecuador to Ciudad del Este

In statements collected by ABCGerardo Brunstein, medical chief of the APF, announced that the federation is going to “request by note the lifting of 80%” and “that the boys (under 12 years old) return to the soccer fields to see their teams”.

The Paraguayan team, which no longer has any option to qualify for Qatar 2022, will receive the Ecuadorian team on Thursday, March 24 (6:30 p.m.). The Tricolor, virtually in the next World Cup, hopes to confirm its classification in Ciudad del Este (Antonio Aranda Stadium), on the seventeenth round of the South American qualifier. (D)
