London announced its readiness to host the Champions League final instead of St. Petersburg

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan announced the readiness of the city to host the Champions League final of the 2021/2022 season. His words are quoted by the Evening Standard.

The politician called hosting the final of the tournament a privilege that should not be available to Russia, and another city should be chosen instead of St. Petersburg. “If UEFA holds the final in St. Petersburg, this will reward the aggressive actions of Russia,” he said.

Earlier on February 22, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced that it had no plans to postpone the Champions League final from St. Petersburg after Russia recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR). The final of the tournament should take place on May 28.

On the same day, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that Russia should not host football tournaments. He considered that the country is in the status of a pariah.
