The Polish Football Union is going to apply to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) regarding the hosting of the 2022 World Cup qualification match against Russia in Moscow. It is reported by Polskie Radio 24.
The Poles will ask to move the meeting to a neutral field due to the current political situation. According to the Minister of Sports and Tourism of Poland, Kamil Bortnichuk, football players should not fly to Russia. “If the transfer is not approved, we will think about what to do,” the functionary added.
It is noted that unofficial sources in UEFA consider it possible to postpone the match only in case of a dangerous situation at the venue of the game. The meeting should take place on March 24 at the Moscow stadium “VTB Arena”.
In case of victory over Poland, the Russian team will play with the winner of the Czech Republic-Sweden pair. Only two victories will allow Valery Karpin’s team to win a ticket to the final part of the World Championship.
