US record-breaking figure skater condemns CAS decision on 2022 team tournament

Olympic champion figure skating American Nathan Chen spoke about the absence of the awards ceremony for the team tournament of the 2022 Games in Beijing. His words are quoted by TASS.

The athlete said he was disappointed with the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). “It would be a great moment for everyone who worked here in our wonderful team. And this moment was taken away from us. We did our part of the work and wanted to walk with medals,” he stressed.

On February 19, it became known that the American skaters filed an appeal with the CAS, demanding that the award be held. As a result, the court upheld the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), according to which the ceremony of awarding the winners of the team figure skating tournament will not be held.

The IOC did not hold the awards ceremony amid the scandal surrounding the doping test of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. Team USA finished second in the team event. The Russians are the best.

Chen won Olympic gold in men’s singles. He set a world record in the short program.
