The former coach of the Russian national team explained the defeat of hockey players in the finals of the Olympic Games-2022

Former head coach of the Russian national hockey team Vladimir Plushev summed up the results of the Olympic tournament at the 2022 Games in Beijing. The specialist spoke in an interview with a Lenta.ru correspondent.

He explained the defeat of the Russians in the final game with Finland by the superiority of the opponent. “The Finns played more competently and balanced both in the final and throughout the tournament. Ours, knowing their strengths, could not find an antidote. Perhaps the coaching staff lacked experience. At the same time, I note that in the final our guys played one of the best games in this tournament. Silver, perhaps, can be considered a success. Any Olympic medal is valuable, ”Plyushchev said.

The coach also named the Russian hockey players who made a positive impression on him during the tournament. “Unfortunately, there is almost no one to mention personally. With the exception of goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov and defender Alexander Nikishin, he is a very promising guy. Unfortunately, we continue to focus on the results of 40 years ago, but in order to return them, one must want to change something. Soviet hockey players thundered all over the world and achieved great victories, we now do not correspond to this level, ”added the specialist.

The Russian national team lost to Finland 1:2 earlier on Sunday, February 20. The Finnish team for the first time in history won the gold of the Olympic Games.
