Guardiola wanted to sign Harry Kane, but the offer was rejected

Pep Guardiola tried to bring Harry Kane through a proposal made by the Manchester City, but heard a “no” four times. The coach had chosen the English striker as his main target during the early season window, but the “Spurs” did not want to sell at all.

During the press conference this week, the Spaniard was asked if he had tried to sign the player before. He said yes, but even with the negative response, he didn’t want to cause any problems with the club.

“And I have never created a fire here because I represent the club and the club is always beyond me. When we have some conversations and we can’t agree, we do it internally. We tried (Kane) but it was far from done because Tottenham were clear that this was not going to happen. And when that happens two, three, four times, it’s over,” he said.

Looking at it now, it would be easy to say that without him the team did well. Leader of the English Premier League and practically qualified for the next phase of the Champions League, the season has been very good, but at the beginning, it was not a guaranteed success: “Now you can say, ‘Harry Kane didn’t come and everything is going well’. But at the time I didn’t know. We lost to ‘Spurs’ in the first round and to Leicester in the Community Shield (Super Cup of England)”.

Despite the troubled start to the season, Guardiola sees his team well at this moment, even without a striker: “We don’t have a guy who will score 25 or 30 goals, but he needs three or four to get ten or 12 and we will be close to winning the title”.
