Argentine Paris Saint-Germain striker Lionel Messi is the top favorite for the 2021 Ballon d’Or award. Reported by Marca.
The Spanish edition names the 34-year-old striker as the main contender for the prestigious award. In particular, 34 percent of respondents in the Marca poll voted for Messi. The second place is taken by the forward of Real Madrid Karim Benzema, the third place according to the poll was taken by the Polish forward of the Munich “Bavaria” Robert Lewandowski.
Marca’s note points out that the Argentine is still in great shape. In 2021, he scored 40 goals and helped his teammates excel 14 times. He played a total of 48 appearances with Barcelona, PSG and Argentina.
Messi has won the Ballon d’Or twice according to France Football. He also has four Golden Balls from the International Football Federation (FIFA).
