FIFA is studying expanding the bona fide lists of those selected who will participate in the next World Cup in Qatar 2022 by three players and who will thus have 26 members in their squads, after analyzing the results of a similar measure adopted in international competitions from of the coronarivus pandemic.
The final resolution will be announced on April 1, when FIFA carries out the draw for the World Cup to be played in Qatar between November 21 and December 18 of this year. But the decision will be taken at the end of next month and in principle would have the approval of the majority of the member associations, it remaining to be resolved whether the 15 players who are not starters will be able to occupy the full substitute bench.
The precedent of the last Copa América in Brazil, which was won by Argentina, generated a favorable precedent in pursuit of this measure, since 28 players registered per National Team were allowed.
The approval of 26 players selected for the next World Cup would also imply that there would be continuity in the five changes planned per game. (D)
