The biggest altercations occurred during the first part of the match, when hundreds of people tried to enter the stadium.

The incidents that occurred on the night from Sunday to Monday around the Velodrome stadium where the French football classic was played between the Olympic Marsella (OM) and the Paris Saint Germain (PSG) resulted in 21 arrests.

Police fountains by the canal BFMTV and by the station France Info They specified that there were also nine wounded among the agents of the forces of order in the clashes.

The biggest altercations took place during the first part of the match, when hundreds of people tried to enter the stadium despite the fact that the doors were already closed, which required the intervention of the forces of order, who used tear gas.

Inside the Velodrome, 65,000 people filled the stands and the match, which ended in a tie at 0, was also marked by incidents. The launch of different objects forced the game to stop twice with Neymar as the main objective. The firecrackers and flares created a thick fog and a spontaneous leapt onto the pitch.

Fearing that there would be acts of violence due to the precedents in other classics that had been played in the city in previous years, the Police Prefecture had prohibited any parade and the movement of PSG fans to Marseille had been prevented.

The captain of Olympique, Dimitri Payet, had launched a message on social networks before the classic to ask the fans for “exemplaryness”, something that the president, the Spanish Pablo Longoria, also did in a letter.

After the game, Payet criticized the launching of various types of projectiles from the stands and said: It cannot be said that these people like OM and that they are fans of this club because they can penalize us.

Marseille have already been sanctioned twice this season by the Professional Football League for altercations in the stands, first for a match in Nice on 22 August and then for another in Angers on 22 September.

Against this background, the team was threatened by the loss of a point in the classification in case of repeat offenses. (D)
