The Kremlin commented on the words of the head of the IOC about Valieva and Tutberidze

The Kremlin commented on the statement of the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach about the cold reaction of the coach Eteri Tutberidze to hire her student Kamila Valieva at the Beijing Olympics. It is reported by TASS.

Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov did not agree with the condemnation of Tutberidze by the head of the IOC. He noted that the key to the success of athletes lies, among other things, in the toughness of the coach.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Chernyshenko also spoke on this topic. He expressed his disappointment that the head of the IOC makes inappropriate comments.

Valieva took fourth place in the individual figure skaters’ tournament. During the Olympics, the figure skaters found a microdose of a banned substance in a doping test. The IOC and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) sought her suspension, but the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) sided with Valieva. The prohibited drug could have entered the athlete’s body by accident and did not affect the results, CAS noted on the official website.
