President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach praised the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which allowed the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva to participate in the individual tournament at the Beijing Olympics. It is reported by “Championship.com”.
Bach admitted that the IOC did not want to see Valieva among the participants in the Games. At the same time, the head of the IOC stressed that he respects the decision of CAS. “If we don’t respect the law, there will be no international sport,” he added.

Valieva finished fourth in the individual tournament, despite taking the lead in the short program. Gold was won by her compatriot Alexandra Trusova.
CAS allowed Valieva to participate in the Olympics, rejecting appeals from the IOC and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The athlete passed a positive doping test on December 25, 2021. As part of the Russian national team, she became the winner of the Olympic team tournament.
