Real Sociedad draws with Leipzig (2-2) and the tie will be decided at Anoeta

Real Sociedad tied with Leipzig (2-2) this Thursday in Germany Europa League round of 32 first leg. Therefore, the tie and classification for the round of 16 will be decided at the Reale Arena next February 24.

After the break, Leipzig went on the attack, while Real Sociedad continued to wait behind for their rival with the intention of being able to go on the counterattack and hurt their opponent. In the 60th minute, Oyarzabal took a corner, Gvardiol touched the ball with his hand inside the area, and the referee awarded a penalty in favor of the txuri-urdin team, after consulting the VAR. Mikel Oyarzabal did not forgive from the penalty spot (1-2) and put Real Sociedad ahead on the scoreboard again.

The script of the meeting did not change after 1-2. Leipzig dominated again and came close to equalizing in the 66th minute, but Forsberg’s shot was cleared by goalkeeper Ryan. Four minutes later, Simakan’s volley went wide. The German team continued to insist, and in the 79th minute, the referee awarded Leipzig a favorable penalty for a foul by Zaldua on Szoboszlai inside the area. The penalty was protested by the Real Sociedad players, but the VAR did not correct the referee’s decision and there was nothing to do. Forsberg made it 2-2 from eleven meters, without giving Ryan options.

Already in the discount, Mathew Ryan prevented Leipzig’s third goal when stopping a point-blank shot from Benedikt Henrichs.
