Karpin called the expanded composition of the Russian national team for the November selection matches at the World Cup

The head coach of the Russian national team Valery Karpin announced an expanded list of players called up to prepare for the November 2022 World Cup qualification matches in Qatar. This was reported on the website of the Russian Football Union (RFU).

The coaching staff announced the list of 41 players. The final lineup will be announced on November 1st.

Among the named players there are newcomers who have never been called up to the Russian national team before. These are goalkeepers Ilya Lantratov (Khimki) and Nikita Khaikin (Bude-Glimt, Norway), midfielders Konstantin Maradishvili (Lokomotiv), Alexander Chernikov (Krasnodar) and Roman Yezhov (Wings of the Soviets), as well as striker of the Samara team Ivan Sergeev. Zenit forward Artem Dzyuba is absent from the squad.

The home match with Cyprus will take place on November 11 in St. Petersburg. The off-site meeting with Croatia will take place in Split three days later. These games will be the final games for the 2022 World Cup qualification. After eight rounds, the Russians are leading the qualifying group with 19 points, two points ahead of the Croats.
