Żyła reveals the facts. Disgrace of the FIS. They wanted to allow illegal equipment?

At the end of January, before the World Cup competition in Willingen, the Poles took off their new shoes. They jumped sensational in training and in the prologue, which irritated me. The former coach of the Polish team, and today the coach of the German team, protested our equipment. The FIS acceded to the Austrian’s protest, although Piotr ¯y³a, starting on Saturday in new equipment, several dozen minutes earlier without any problems

Now, in an interview, he reveals how the situation was exactly. – The new controller told me: “OK, the shoes are fine, you can jump in them at the weekend in Willingen, but not at the Olympics anymore.” Alright, that was understandable. I went to the hotel, and here Stefanek Hula tells me that there is a disqualification, because they are already writing about it on the Internet. What a miracle? Why? What for? What is this all about? I was very angry.

Discretionary decisions are shocking. Perhaps it was the same with the equipment of the Germans?

The same FIS regulations should apply both at the Olympics and in the World Cup. Meanwhile, the Finn himself admitted that the shoes were perhaps too much of an innovation, but he admitted them to the World Cup anyway. And if in the end our shoes did not comply with the regulations, is it in this case that the controller himself admits that he initially knowingly allowed illegal equipment in Willingen?

Perhaps it does the same with other things, such as the German overalls, which are the most talked about after the Olympics? On all sides, we hear that Jukkara often has a completely different interpretation of the official FIS rules and claims that it is his personal but binding interpretation. This was the case before the Games with The rules said one thing, but Jukkara did not agree with them. In this situation, the Poles took their way and threatened with a lawsuit for possible groundless disqualification.

How, then, is there to be transparency and clarity of regulations when equipment is allowed on one weekend and not on the next?

The controller contradicted himself. “Bullshit”

As it turns out, a few dozen minutes after Jukkar’s inspection, he contradicted himself. More specifically, his official protest helped in this. This is the result of Piotr ¯yły’s account.

– (…) He told me something else and did something else. He did not stick to his own findings. The next day he took me for a check again and says he only wants to see my shoes. Okay, look at yourself, but I’m asking right away why did this happen? And why didn’t he call me the day before, say he was wrong and all, I’m sorry, but you can’t jump in these shoes? He replied that there was a protest. But it is he who is decisive! Bullshit. So far, the FIS has not dealt with it. And to be honest, one more thing: our start of the season turned out poorly because of that. There was a confusion with the equipment. – adds Żyła in an interview with Przegląd Sportowy.

What exactly was the matter with the shoes of the Polish jumpers?

The new shoe model of Polish jumpers had a differently finished top. At the back, there is a greater curvature of the footwear, which can, for example, improve the handling of the skis in the first phase of the flight. The most important thing, however, is that the regulations do not say that they are illegal shoes.

The regulations only say that:

  • the shoe must not be more than two centimeters longer than the foot
  • the outer side of the shoe must be of the same thickness as the inner one
  • the sole may be a maximum of 45 mm
  • you cannot transform the shoes for better aerodynamics

The FIS has the most doubts about the last point, where a lot depends on interpretation. We hear that the idea behind this provision is that the shoe should not be wider so as not to create more foot space. The Poles’ shoe, on the other hand, is only slightly more curved, which does not affect the bearing surface.

The white-and-reds, however, are not giving up their arms and the boots should be approved for the next season.
