The head of the IOC discussed with the American figure skaters the cancellation of the award ceremony at the Olympic Games

President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach held a meeting with American figure skaters. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

The head of the IOC discussed with the athletes the cancellation of the awards ceremony for the medalists of the Beijing Olympics team tournament, in which the US team took second place. “As far as I know, the initiative belonged to Bach, he himself is a former athlete, he decided to support them. We also proposed such a meeting to the Japanese team, but they said that they did not need it, they fully supported the decision of the IOC, ”said Mark Adams, IOC Communications Director.

Earlier it was reported that the IOC refused to award the winners of the team figure skating tournament, in which the Russians became the strongest, due to an investigation into the case against Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. In addition, the organizers of the Games will not hold an awards ceremony if she is among the winners in a personal tournament.

Valieva passed a positive doping test on December 25, 2021, but this became known only on February 9. As part of the Russian national team, she became the winner of the Olympic team tournament. The athlete was allowed to the individual tournament of the Games by the decision of CAS.
