Two-time Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko did not agree with the scores in the short program of the personal figure skaters’ tournament at the Beijing Olympics, considering them to be the generosity of the judges. His words are quoted by Sport-Express.
Plushenko explained that the judges were very generous to 15-year-old Kamila Valieva. The coach and ex-skater believes that Anna Shcherbakova’s performance was cleaner and better, so that it was she who deserved to win in the short program.
Valieva became the leader by performing in the short program. For the rental, the skater received 82.16 points. She did not appear at the press conference following the program. The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) said that Valieva felt unwell.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) allowed Valieva to participate in the individual figure skaters’ tournament, dismissing appeals from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), which intended to get Valieva suspended due to the athlete’s questionable doping test.
