This is Adil Abdurehim, who at that time was an official of the sports and culture department in one of the districts of the Xinjiang capital – Urumqi.

Radio Free Asia reports that Abdurehim has been serving a 14-year prison sentence for five years for “watching counter-revolutionary films”. To extract information about Abdurehim, journalists used a ruse by giving a false identity during a telephone conversation with a police officer in Urumqi.

Abduweli Ayup, Uighur, who emigrated to Norway some time ago, was reminded of the existence of Adil Abdurehim and documents the arrests in Xinjiang there. Radio Free Asia said Adila was selected for the relay race for the same reason as Dinige’er – to “whitewash Chinese atrocities against the Uighurs.”
