Coach Plushenko called WADA an ineffective structure

Honored coach of the USSR in figure skating Alexei Mishin, who worked with two-time Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko, criticized the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

Mishin called WADA an ineffective structure and said that it needs to be reformed. “Introducing our representative to WADA will not solve the problem. The organization needs structural reconstruction,” the coach said.

Currently, Mishin is coaching world champion in women’s singles Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, silver medalist of the 2018 Olympic Games in the team tournament Mikhail Kolyada and winner of the world team championship Evgeny Semenenko. Of all his students, only Semenenko was able to come to the Games in Beijing, who took eighth place in the individual championship. Tuktamysheva remained a substitute, and Kolyada was forced to miss the Olympics due to the coronavirus.

Earlier it became known that the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva passed a positive doping test on December 25, 2021. As part of the Russian national team, she became the winner of the team tournament at the 2022 Olympics. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected the appeals of WADA and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and allowed Valieva to participate in the individual championship of the Games in Beijing.
