Russian coach Alexander Zhulin appreciated the performance of Kamila Valieva in the short program at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. He spoke out on Instagram.
“We’re proud!” – said the specialist. He also published a collage of photographs with the Russian athlete taken immediately after the performance.
In the short program, Valieva made a mistake while performing the triple axel, scored 82.16 points and became the leader. In second place with 80.20 points is her compatriot Anna Shcherbakova. The top three is closed by Japanese Kaori Sakamoto (79.84).
Valieva’s doping test dated December 25 contained the banned drug trimetazidine. On February 14, CAS lifted the temporary suspension from the athlete. At the same time, the IOC refused to hold an awards ceremony if Valieva got on the podium in a personal tournament. Until the end of the proceedings with the skater, the Russian skaters who won the team tournament in Beijing will not receive a medal either.
