The condition for the participation of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva in demonstration performances at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing has been named. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the International Skating Union (ISU).
Valieva will take part in the gala program of the Games if she wins the competition. “In accordance with the guidelines for team leaders at the Beijing Olympics, the skaters who finish the competition in first or third place will be invited to participate in exhibition performances,” the ISU press service said.
Valieva became the leader in the short program on February 15. For the rental, the 15-year-old athlete received 82.16 points. In second place is another Russian Anna Shcherbakova with 80.20 points. Third place went to Japanese Kaori Sakamoto with 79.84 points.
Earlier it became known that the results of the figure skaters’ competitions at the Olympics will be considered preliminary if Valieva enters the top three.
On February 14, the IOC announced that it would refuse to award medals based on the results of the individual women’s tournament if Valieva was among the winners. The athlete passed a positive doping test on December 25, 2021 and is participating in the Olympics following the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
