Bidasoa Irun beat Tatran Presov (33-24) in Artaleku the party corresponding to the Matchday 7 of the EHF European League group stageand gave a giant step to qualify for the round of 16.
The first goal of the match was scored by the local team (1-0), although the visiting team reacted quickly (1-1). Bidasoa Irun achieved a two-goal lead to which Tatran Presov also responded immediately (3-3). In addition, the visiting team was ahead on the scoreboard (4-5). At that moment, Bidasoa Irun began to prevail, although it was after the tie at eight (8-8) when Jacobo Cuétara’s team broke the tie and opened a gap, managing to reach the break with a five-goal advantage (16-11).
The start of the second half ended up confirming the superiority of Bidasoa Irun. Fernández, Cavero and Rodríguez scored in just four minutes and the Irundarras finally took off (19-11).
After the Slovakian timeout, the Cuenca winger Sergio López broke the visiting drought, injuring himself in the same action and having to leave a match that had the last 20 minutes left over.
Víctor Rodríguez increased Irundarra’s income to ten (22-12, m. 38) and Cavero established what would be the maximum advantage (26-13). With all the fish sold and given the strenuous calendar for this month of February, Cuétara preferred to use a less usual rotation, giving even more prominence to some young homegrown players who did well.
