Schellenberg Wittmer lawyer Anna Kozmenko, representing the interests of the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, appreciated the words of Denis Oswald, a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), about the source of doping in the client. Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
“Despite Kamila’s status as a protected person, some international sports officials took it upon themselves to make statements in the press in this case, in particular, distorting the facts and the very position of Kamila,” Kozmenko said. She considered that this was unfair to the athlete and contrary to the current rules.
Earlier on February 15, IOC officer Oswald said that trimetazidine could have entered the body of 15-year-old Valieva through a product that her grandfather used. As he noted, this argument played in favor of the figure skater at a hearing in her doping case at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The court allowed Valieva to participate in the Olympic Games. The Russian is leading after the short program. The IOC will refuse to hold the awards ceremony if the figure skater is among the winners.
