According to Brennan, the position of the IOC vividly illustrates the situation in which no one trusts “dirty skates”. The American also called the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding the admission of 15-year-old Valieva to further participation in the Games terrible. “This is pushing the Olympics and figure skating into chaos,” she wrote.

Earlier, on February 14, it became known about the decision of the IOC to abandon the award ceremony for the winners of the team tournament. The committee motivated this step by the fact that the organization acts in the interests of all skaters. Also, the IOC will not award medals in the individual tournament if the 15-year-old Russian woman is among the winners. The CAS denied the IOC and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) an appeal. The organizations sought to achieve the removal of Valieva from further participation in the Games. CAS upheld the decision to lift the temporary suspension of the athlete. Valieva will take part in the individual tournament. The screenings will take place on February 15 and 17.

On February 9, it became known about the dubious doping test of Valieva. In this regard, the IOC has postponed the award ceremony following the results of the team tournament of the Olympics. On February 11, the International Testing Agency (ITA) officially confirmed that Valieva’s December 25 doping test tested positive for the banned trimetazidine.

Valieva won the short and free programs in the team tournament and helped the Russian team win gold. Also, the figure skater was the first in the history of women’s skating to perform a quadruple jump at the Olympics.
