American journalist Philip Hersh Twitter commented on the decision of the exit panel of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to lift the temporary suspension from the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva.
“If you compete with adults, you should be treated like an adult – in the case of doping and everything else. At this level of competition, the idea of a “protected face” is ridiculous,” the journalist said. He felt that such decisions would encourage other athletes to circumvent the rules.

Earlier on February 14, CAS lifted Valieva’s temporary suspension. The figure skater was allowed to participate in the individual tournament at the Olympic Games. The reason was the status of the “protected person” of the athlete and the late notification of a positive doping test.
After that, the head of the US Olympic Committee, Sarah Hirshland, condemned the decision. She urged the Olympic Movement to continue the fight for clean sport for the sake of athletes from all over the world and added that athletes have been deprived of the opportunity to compete in a fair manner.
