The Russian team got into the lower half of the grid, where the Finnish team is also located. The Finnish team in the quarterfinals will meet with the best in the match Czech Republic – Switzerland. In the upper half of the bracket, the United States will play with the strongest in a pair of Slovakia – Germany. The Swedes will face the winner of the Canada-China match.
On February 11, the Russian team reached the quarterfinals of the tournament ahead of schedule. This happened after the Czech Republic ended in a regular time draw against Switzerland. Thus, no team in Group A will be able to get ahead of the Russians. The last match of the group stage against the Czech Republic had no tournament value for the Russian team.
