The Italian Alessandro Covi (UAE-Team Emirates) prevailed this Saturday in the 42nd edition of the Cycling Tour of the Region of Murcia Costa Cálidaa one-day test run between Fortuna and Cartagena, in Spain.

The test had Ecuadorian participation with the sucumbisense Jefferson Cepedabroker of Caja Rural-Seguros RGA, who opened its season in Murcia.

The Ecuadorian was protagonist in the first sections, in the ports of Cresta del Gallo and Collado Bermejo, where successive attacks and escapes were recorded.

Cepeda he was at the top of the race until the middle of the day, where he imposed his rhythm and collaborated with his squad to lead their sprinters to fight for victory.

The Ecuadorian was ranked 85th, 10 minutes 22 seconds behind Covi, who won his first win as a professional. The Italian recorded a time of 4 hours 34 minutes 50 seconds.

Sorted the top of the Cedacero, Covi went alone to face the final stretch of the race and sustain in the final meters just a second difference with a group of eleven runners, who had his partner Matteo Trentin in second position; Meanwhile in Frenchman Matis Louvel entered third place, Team Arkéa-Samsic rider.

“We went little by little, we attack from afar with Brandon McNulty and then we had Matteo Trentin for the sprint. I had the opportunity to look for him and we won. It is the best possible result, the optimum, Well, we got the first and second position, and it’s something to be very happy about”, said Covi at the finish line.

Of Cepeda’s squad, the best placed was the Venezuelan Orluis Aular, who placed sixth, one second behind the winner.

The Caja Rural-Seguros RGA continues its calendar this Sunday with the Clásica de Almeríaa one-day test in which only Aular will repeat from the squad that ran this Saturday.

For its part, Cepeda starts the Vuelta a Andalucía Ruta Ciclista del Sol on Wednesdaya race that includes five stages, until February 20, which prevents him from being in the cycling nationals scheduled in Quito. (D)
