Russian skeletonist Elena Nikitina will stop performing until the conflict in the national team is resolved. Her words are reported by TASS.
She said that there are problems in the team because of the skeletons on which the athletes perform. Nikitina explained that another equipment manufacturer had joined the team. Coaches obligated athletes to ride new skeletons, but many athletes decided not to change the old ones. After that, the leadership decided that those who did not transfer would be boycotted.
“I’m not saying that they are bad, we had great results with these coaches, with this equipment. It’s just that when there is discord in the team, there will never be any result, this is always the case, ”Nikitina shared. She noted that everyone is angry with each other. The athlete said she did not want to compete if nothing changes. The skeletonist decided to rest and wait for the situation to improve.
Earlier, Nikitina spoke about her performance at the Beijing Olympics. According to her, the miracle did not happen, and she was morally destroyed in the middle of the season. “And inside, unfortunately, the war! The internal war we’ve all been trying to hide for a very, very long time!” — wrote Nikitina, without revealing other details.
Nikitina is a bronze medalist of the 2014 Olympics in Sochi and a three-time medalist of the world championships. At the Beijing Games, she took 16th place.
