The Russian national ice hockey team suffered its first defeat at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing. This is reported by the correspondent of “Lenta.ru”.

Domestic hockey players lost to the Czech Republic in overtime with a score of 5:6. As part of the Russian team, Vladimir Tkachev, Nikita Nesterov, Kirill Semenov, Arseniy Gritsyuk and Andrey Chibisov distinguished themselves.

On February 11, the Russian team reached the quarterfinals of the tournament ahead of schedule. This happened after the Czech Republic ended in a regular time draw against Switzerland. Thus, no team in Group A will be able to get ahead of the Russians. The last match of the group stage against the Czech Republic had no tournament value for the Russian team.

Earlier, at the Beijing Olympics, the Russian team defeated Switzerland (1:0) and Denmark (2:0) and scored six points. The winners of the quartets and the best team from among those that will take second places will go directly from the three groups to the 1/4 finals. The rest will start the playoffs at the 1/8 final stage.
