Check out some fun facts about the FIFA Club World Cup finals

The 2022 club world champion will be known this Saturday, in the final between palm trees and Chelsea at 1:30 pm (Brasília time), at the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium, in the United Arab Emirates. To get in the mood for the game, here are some fun facts about the finals of FIFA Club World Cup.

Brazilian clubs are the ones that participated in the finals the most. With Palmeiras, there will be nine participations in all, the Spaniards are in second with eight.

Brazil

In all the finals of the competition in its new format, a Brazilian player was on the field. The last team that did not have a Brazilian on the field was River Plate, in 2015.

British and Brazilians

Before Saturday’s clash, another three finals were played between clubs from England against clubs from Brazil, ending with the same score. São Paulo 1×0 Liverpool (2005), Corinthians 1×0 Chelsea (2012), Liverpool 1×0 Flamengo (2019).

fastest goal

In 2013, in the match Bayern Munich and Raja Casablanca, the Brazilian defender Dante scored in the seventh minute of the match, the fastest goal of the World Cup finals.

Hat trick

Cristiano Ronaldo is the only player to score three goals in a final. This happened in 2016 in an overtime turn against the Kashima Antlers.

biggest win

The biggest goal difference win in a final was in 2011, when Lionel Messi and Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona faced the saints by Neymar and Goose. The score was a resounding 4-0 with a show from the Spanish team.

The last time the champion was not a European was in 2012 with the Corinthians title. Since then they have been champions: Real Madrid (4), Bayern Munchen (two), barcelona (1 and Liverpool (1).

Other finalists

The first six editions of the new format were between the representative of Europe against the one of South America. However, without five of the last 11 finals, teams from other continents arrived: Mazembe from Congo (2010), Raja Casablanca from Morocco (2013), Japan’s Kashima Antlers (2016), UAE’s Al Ain (2018) and Mexico’s Tigers (2020).
