President of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKR) Alexander Gorshkov made a statement regarding the situation with a positive doping test of figure skater Kamila Valieva. His words are given on the website of the organization.
Gorshkov said that he had no doubts about the honesty of the 15-year-old athlete, noting that her case requires careful consideration. He believes that the federation provides Valieva with comprehensive assistance and has already attracted qualified lawyers to the case. According to the head of the FFKR, it is necessary to find out why the process of studying the figure skater’s doping test took so long.

On February 11, the International Testing Agency (ITA) officially confirmed that Valieva’s doping test dated December 25, 2021 tested positive for the banned trimetazidine. After that, the World Anti-Doping Agency and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) filed an appeal with the CAS against the decision to cancel the temporary suspension of Valieva from the 2022 Olympic Games – it was registered on the evening of February 11.
Valieva’s questionable doping test was reported on 9 February. In this regard, the IOC has postponed the award ceremony following the results of the team tournament of the Olympics. The Russian team, which included Valieva, became the winner in this type of program.
