The Tour de France will return to its 22-team format in its 2022 edition, which will start on July 1 in Copenhagen, after the 23 it admitted last year.

The organization of the French cycling round disclosed this Friday the 22 teams that will participate, among which are 18 World Teams, such as the Spanish Movistar, Bora, Bahrain, Ineos or Jumbo, and four Pro Teams.

Among the latter are the first two classified on the UCI Pro Teams list, the Belgian Alpecin and the French Arkea-Sasmic. In addition, it was learned that the organization invited two other French teams in the category, B&B Hotels and TotalEnergies.

This will mean that there will be six French teams, since the participation of AG2R, Cofidis and Groupama, from the highest category, was already known.

In 2021, the Tour had 23 squads thanks to the fact that the International Cycling Union (UCI) allowed a maximum of 184 cyclists to take part in the main eventscompared to the 176 authorized until then.

Last year, the Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz achieved in France, with his third place, becoming the twentieth cyclist to stand on the podium of the three Grand Tours (he won the Giro d’Italia in 2019 and was runner-up in the Vuelta a EspaƱa) and the fifth Latin American to achieve it in Gallic territory.
