The Kremlin appreciated the desire of the United States to punish the Russians because of Valieva’s doping

The Kremlin strongly disagrees with the cross-border application of US law. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, whose words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

This is how he assessed the desire of the head of the American Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), Travis Tygart, to prosecute the Russians in accordance with the American “Rodchenkov Act”. It was noted that all those involved in the use of a prohibited drug by figure skater Kamila Valieva will receive punishment.

Tygart spoke out earlier on Friday, Feb. 11. He referred to the “Rodchenkov Act”, which provides for criminal punishment for episodes of doping conspiracy at tournaments with the participation of Americans.

Earlier on February 11, the International Testing Agency (ITA) officially confirmed that Valieva’s December 25 doping test tested positive for the banned trimetazidine. After that, the International Olympic Committee filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport against the decision of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency to lift the temporary suspension from the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing Valieva. Her case must be considered before the start of the individual tournament at the Games.
