Olympic champion in diving Irina Vaitsekhovskaya commented on the doping scandal involving Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. The former athlete spoke out on her Telegram channel.
According to her, sports doctors continue to live according to the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and receive the drugs that the department recommends to them. Vaitsekhovskaya emphasized that young athletes are often prescribed a number of drugs for heart problems, including trimetazidine. That is how, according to the athlete, the prohibited substance could get into the body of Valieva.

“I repeat, this is just a version. But if you think now not about how to “bounce”, but about how to avoid in the future. I think it would be good to approach the issue with prejudice, ”Vaitsekhovskaya said.
Earlier on February 11, the International Testing Agency (ITA) stated that Valieva’s December 25 doping test tested positive for the banned drug trimetazidine. After that, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the decision of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) to lift the temporary suspension of Valieva from the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.
Her case must be considered before the start of the individual tournament at the Olympics. The start of the competition is scheduled for February 15th.
