FC Barcelona receives approval from its partners to request credit to remodel the Camp Nou and its surroundings

The general assembly of compromisario members of FC Barcelona approved to request a loan of 1,746 million dollars to finance the Espai Barça project.

The general assembly of compromisario members of FC Barcelona approved this Saturday to request a loan of 1,500 million euros (1,746 million dollars) to finance Espai Barça, the remodeling of the Camp Nou stadium and its surroundings.

The proposal was approved by 405 votes in favor, 21 against and 9 blank, far exceeding the minimum of 294 votes necessary to authorize the loan request.

Despite approval by the assembly, the credit “must be ratified in a referendum by all club members”announced the president of the Barça club, Joan Laporta.

The Barcelona president explained that Goldman Sachs had been discussed to request the loan “because he made a proposal”, but revealed that they are also “talking with other” potential funders.

The loan will be used to expand the Camp Nou stadium, as well as for the remodeling of the sports center and attached spaces.

“We will build the Nou Camp Nou, the Nou Palau, the Nou Petit Palau, a new ice rink … It will be a marvelous architectural work, a world reference,” Laporta explained this Saturday.

The Barcelona board plans to allocate 900 million euros of credit (1,047 million dollars) to remodel the Camp Nou, 420 million ($ 488 million) to modernize the Palau Blaugrana (where the Barça basketball team plays, among others) and 20 million ($ 23.2 million) for the Johan Cruyff stadium, of the subsidiary.

FC Barcelona It plans to begin construction of its stadium in the summer of 2022 to finish by the end of 2025.

Laporta had already advanced in an interview with radio RAC1 that, on the occasion of these works, Barça would probably have to play outside their stadium for a year, for which he pointed to the Johan Cruyff stadium expanding its capacity.

“I wanted to expand the Estadi Johan Cruyff, but I already understand that it is complicated. Montjuic (the Olympic stadium) is being studied or making it possible to combine the Camp Nou with the works ”, Laporta explained on Saturday. (D)
