International Olympic Committee (IOC) Communications Director Mark Adams announced the possibility of reviewing the results of the figure skating team tournament at the 2022 Games in Beijing. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Adams said that he does not rule out the possibility that the gold for winning the team tournament could go to American skaters. “We have to wait until the investigation is over. Everyone is trying to make things go as quickly as possible,” he stressed. It is noted that the final decision on the distribution of medals will be made after consideration until February 15.
Earlier on February 11, it became known that the IOC filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the decision of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) to lift the temporary suspension from the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing Valieva. The reason was the positive result of the athlete on trimetazidine, found in the sample dated December 25. Her case will be considered by a special commission before the start of the individual tournament at the Games.
Valieva’s dubious doping test became known on February 9. In this regard, the IOC has postponed the award ceremony of the Olympic team tournament.
The American team became the second after Russia in the team figure skating tournament of the Games in Beijing. Valieva’s victorious skates helped the Russians win gold.
