Sports Minister must appear before the Assembly due to the abandonment of the San Rafael complex, in Esmeraldas | Other Sports | sports

A $233,000 debt with the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security (IESS) would be reason for embargo of the Homero Lopez Sports Complexalso known as the San Rafael complex, located in the south of Esmeraldas, which belongs to the Esmeraldas Sports Federation.

This debt has been accumulated for five years by the provincial entity, as detailed Lourdes Pachecoprovincial director of the IESS of Esmeraldas, to assemblyman Javier Ortiz.

Edwin Preciadopresident of the Sports Federationacknowledges the debt and clarifies that it is the responsibility of past administrations of that institution that did not pay on time.

“I know delivered the complex as an agreement with the IESS for the employer default and contributions that the Federation owes to its employees”, he explained for his part Nicole Estupinanzonal coordinator 1 of the Ministry of Sport.

This guarantee does not imply the seizure of the sports scene by the IESS, Estupiñán indicated.

For his part, Assemblyman Ortiz demands a report on the reality of the San Rafael complex, which to date does not provide training for local athletes, and anticipated that this is “enough reason to request the appearance of the Minister of Sport, Sebastián Palacios, and Nicole Estupiñán to the Committee on the Right to Health and Sports of the Assembly.

“The minutes of use and administration of this sports complex of 79,000 square meters have not been signed, nor is there a definitive receipt,” said Ortiz, who added that the Rioverde High Performance Sports Center (CEAR), a scenario that presents damage to its entire infrastructure.

In the comprehensive rehabilitation of the San Rafael complex, nearly 8 million dollars were invested in 2019 to have an athletic track, changing rooms, four multipurpose fields, a sports center, an administrative building, two synthetic courtsgreen areas, outdoor stands, among other spaces.

The work was financed by the Ministry of Transport and Public Works and it is 100% complete, according to the accountability report of that State portfolio in 2020.

“The athletes continue with their practices on the sidewalks and streets of Esmeraldas because the San Rafael complex is closed and only cleaning mingas are done and weed cutting, Preciado said.

Athletes and sports associations hope to talk with Minister Palacios, who will arrive in Esmeraldas this Friday, to participate in the First Meeting of the Project Fan of my Neighborhoodwhich will be presented at 09:00 half a block from the Vidal Vivero school, between E and D streets, Las 50 Casas sector.

The topics that will be exposed will be the reopening of the San Rafael complex, the Nubia Villacís Coliseum, improvements to the Folke Anderson stadium, among other requests for sports works. (D)
